ATOMS stands for "Aaron's 'Things of My Soul'". As such, this blog is a compilation of my spiritual thoughts and insights as I study the scriptures, pray in faith, and have daily experiences. These things are the symbolic atoms that make up my life, and are personal to me. With the belief that "there hath no temptation [or experience or trial or joy] taken [me], but such as is common to man" (1 Corinthians 10:13), I post them in the hope that they bless someone, somewhere, somehow. If it be one soul, my joy is full.

Please feel free to browse, to search, to comment, to correct false doctrine you find, and to let me know if they have been positively (or negatively) influential to you.

It is my prayer that we all sail the seas of life with happiness, and obtain the wonderful blessings that God has in store for us, including living with our righteous loved ones forever, the answers to every question in life, and eternal happiness.

My posts are not to be taken as the official doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are a reflection of my progressive learning and growing into said doctrine, though.

What's In A Name?

"And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved." - Omni 1:26

Here we read that we should partake of Christ's salvation and redemption. Even His power.

In our baptismal covenants, we took a solemn, unbreakable oath to be willing to take upon us the name of Christ. Many, including myself, have asked: what does it mean to take upon us His name?

We read that Christ is also named Saviour and Redeemer. Indeed, these are His names. Does it not make sense that we are to take upon us His saving power as Saviour, and take upon us His redeeming power as Redeemer?

His name is also Jesus. Jesus means deliverer or Saviour. Do we allow Him to deliver us from evil? Or are we like the cat in The Incredibles (Disney), who would not let go of their tree. What trees of pride, sin, or otherwise are we not letting go of?

His name is Christ. Christ means "anointed one." He was anointed and foreordained in the Premortal Life to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. Taking upon us the name of Christ means that we accept Him as Saviour and Redeemer just as we did in the Premortal life, and more so through our ability to exercise obedience and faith in Him in this life.

Below are web links to lists of Christ's names. All of us can read through each one, and personally evaluate how well we accept and apply the gift of each role Christ plays/can play in our lives.
